What is Essential, really ?

It's been a couple of weeks since I have blogged, and I apologise for that.  We have been in the throws of moving back in to our house and getting things 'fixed/updated/changed', so I have not had much spare time.

We have not as yet received our air shipment - it should have been here in mid/late June, so only a month late, so far !!!   We have had word it is on Australian soil but no word on delivery yet.  It may be that our sea shipment actually gets to us before our air shipment !!!!

So, while we have none of our day to day stuff, we did have our things that have been storage delivered.  That has been a fun adventure of seeing what ridiculous things we put in to storage 7 years ago and whether they are still relevant and 'needed' now.  We actually added to that storage in 2017 when we downsized to an apartment in Hong Kong, so a lot of lovely but impractical items came back to Sydney.

All of my garden items, will, and have already come in handy - not sure if the lawn mower still works…….  I took most of my tools to India but there have been a few times in the last week that I have gone to the large box of 'stuff' and found something that was of great assistance.  Even a caulking gun and 3 tubes of No more Gaps, which came in very handy when the fridge space needed some 'adjustment' before it would fit.

We are living in our home but it feels a lot more like camping - and I have never been a huge fan of camping.  We are very grateful to friends and family for lending us a few things to get us by.  We have one proper chair and 2 'pretty' (not practical) chairs that we are playing musical chairs on in the lounge room.  To give you a feel for our life:

  • We have beautiful crystal and expensive wine glasses but no coffee machine
  • We have a brand new mattress but no bed
  • We have a plasma tv and all the gadgets but no Internet - don't ask Mike about Telstra and the NBN !!!
  • We have a brand new stove but one large boiler saucepan, one frypan and a baking dish
  • We have cutlery and crockery but no cooking utensils
  • We have a dishwasher but not enough dishes to use it
  • Jack, who is now taller than me, is sleeping in a single bed that he has had since he was 18 months old - those feet are defiantly hanging over the end !!!
It is an interesting experience, to say the least and everywhere I look, I see another job to do.  Have just come in from fixing the security sensor light at the front door.  Well, it is now actually working but I had to hacksaw the front plate off to fix it, so am now trying to work out how to fix that additional problem.  One step forward, one step back.  Bunnings is getting a lot of business from the Nairns, along with Woolworths - stocking that pantry is costing a fortune !!

We have had a lovely stash of wine in proper storage since we left in 2013 and we had that delivered this week - that has to put a smile on anyones face !

Some photos of the 'not so practical but pretty' items that we have had in storage.

This guy has a candle inside :)

This beautiful brass Indian flower bowl was purchased back in 2015
and is really helpful when we have not furniture !!

What about my VERY large Ganesha statue - helpful ?
Well, he should help with good luck now that he is out of a storage box - lets' hope so.

What about Mike's Indian shivani and turban ?

Some lovely Good Earth lanterns ?

My marble inlay table from the Taj Mahal ?
Always helpful and essential to have a herd of silver elephants

This is about a third of our frames - there is another 6 in crates and another 10 in the sea shipment !!
The walls in our house will be wall to wall frames.
Who doesn't need a Rajasthani lamp when they move home.
And piles of Indian cushion covers…...
On a good note our wine arrived from storage !!
