Covid19 - Update from India

Well, it’s been a while but we have an update. After weeks of hoping for international flights to start out of India, we changed plans and focused on repatriation flights. After a crazy confusing and very ‘indian’ day yesterday we have secured a flight for the 5th June !!!! It has been incredibly stressful and we had to have precision timing to ‘get the booking’ but we are locked in. We don’t know much more than the fact that we are flying out of Chennai on the 5th and arrive in Sydney on the 6th June and will then head to quarantine for 14 days. However, if we have survived the last 4 Indian lockdowns, I am confident we can survive anything !

We start pacing the house on Monday - supposedly it will take 3 days to do and we then will make our way to Chennai to fly out. We think we need to take a bus to Chennai - fun times. Our shipment will take as long as it takes but we are just happy to have the next steps in place.

We have spent the last couple of weeks change plans, making big life decisions and we are now happy that we have worked our way through the myriad of options and now have a ‘plan’. Those of you that know me well, know that a plan is all I need and I am then in my element. Will I sleep now ? Who knows but I will get a lot of sh@t done in the next few days and we will be ‘home’ next week - cannot believe I can say that.

There are emotions of sadness, weirdly, that mean it’s the end of our Expat journey and we are all dealing with that and it really hasn’t ended the way any of us expected or wanted. However, we are super keen to start the next chapter, as the last 66 days of lockdown have made it’s mark and we are happy there is an end in sight.

For those in Australia, see you all soon. For those around the world, I hope we can visit you all again soon and for those we are leaving in India, take care and ‘do the needful’.
