The Maldives - An Eventful Departure

A sneaky long weekend in The Maldives sounded like such a fabulous idea. We had promised the boys, when discussing moving back to India two years ago, to take them to the Maldives this time around. It’s only a 2 hour flight away and there are some great all-inclusive deals that are very suitable when you have tween and teenager boys to feed !!

So, off we ventured to the airport at around 11am for the horrid drive to the airport and merrily boarded the plane at about 2.30pm, albeit 30 minutes delayed. Off we taxied, to the runway and were ready to take-off, and then suddenly we were heading back to the terminal. With very little information provided (actually no information at all) we worked out that there was an issue with the plane and the engineers had been called.

Another hour later and they got us to get off the plane and board buses that went nowhere. We stood there for another hour, on the tarmac, when they then got us to board the broken plane again to be served food...... yeah, like I needed a curry at this point in time !! After about 45 minutes on the broken plane, they said they had another plane for us to use, so yes, we were deplaned again and back on to the good old bus again for a quick trip around the back blocks of the airport to board yet another plane.

We finally departed at 6pm just under 4 hours later than we expected. Arriving so late that we missed our seaplane and had to wait for a domestic fight rather than our seaplane - 3 more hours of transit, a quick 20 minute flight, then a 20 minute speed boat ride, and we arrived !! Oh well, at least we still got to leave India and are now enjoying paradise! Car, planes, planes, buses, boats and a golf buggy !!
