Meat on the Metro - Yes or No ?

The construction of the Metro in Bangalore is well underway and has been for a number of years - scheduled end date 'fluid' but not likely for another 18 months.  However, some sections are up and running and seem to be popular with the locals.  There are a number of rules that need to be followed.

1.  The following items are Not allowed on the Metro

  • Sharp objects
  • Guns
  • Explosive materials
  • Flammable liquids
  • Pets
All very normal for most public transport that I have used around the world.  However, the next one was a little strange.  You are not allowed to take 'meat' on the metro. That is any type of 'meat', not just the sacred cow.  When questioned further by one of the commuters carrying fish, the Metro backed down and said 'Meat (all kind) is prohibited to carry in Namma Metro. However if it’s properly packed and nothing is oozing out from the pack / material and not emitting any foul smell, it is permitted.'

Sadly, I have seen how most meat is packaged in this country, and there is definitely a lot of oozing going on......
