Happy Holi 2019 !

Today we celebrated our favourite Indian festival, Holi. Holi is the festival of love and colour and is primarily a North Indian festival but due to its increase popularity it is now celebrated across the country and is loved by all Indians. Holi is also known as the Festival of Spring and spring has definitely sprung in Bangalore with the flowers blooming, the weather warming and the pollen levels increasing - achoo !!  Another aspect of Holi, as is celebrated in most Indian holidays, is rejoicing with good triumphing over evil.

One of the recent changes to the festival has been the introduction of organic or herbal colours to celebrate with - rather than the vivid, toxic bright colours.   You can still buy the 'vivid colours' but are not recommended unless you’d like to look like a smurf for a week or two.  There was a mixture of 'pure organic' colours and some very bright colours that I just cannot understand how they can be called organic, but are SO bright and stain so badly but are still marketed as organic'. Possibly they are 'Indian Organic' ??  We will see how long Max's head is fluorescent yellow for.

The  gated community celebrates with everyone meeting on the ‘green’ with colours and cameras in hand. The kids absolutely love it and, although tentative at the start, the adults get in to the swing of things pretty quickly and usually end up worse than the kids.  It is lovely to see that no one misses out on the fun and everyone is equal - child and parent, wealthy and poor, old and young, boys and girls.  

Unfortunately, today was dominated by kids with water guns, and I have to say, I am not a fan. It just makes everything very brown and muddy, rather than bright and colourful.  I would recommend a dry Holi- it’s so much more fun then getting hit in the face at point blank range with a water blaster!!

I know many friends have completed the Colour Runs that are very popular, but they are nothing on a Holi party.
