Wonderla Amusement Park - Hyderabad

Last week during the Diwali holiday break the boys and I ventured to Wonderla Amusement Park here in Hyderabad. This is 'India's Number 1 Amusement Park' - well so Tripadvisor says 🙄

The park has two sections, the land rides and then the water rides.  We hit up the land rides first before the heat really set in, when we would be more interested in cooling off on the water rides.  We weren't sure of how bad the queues would be over the Diwali break, so I opted for Fast Track passes, and as it turned out, we didn't need them and the queues were minimal at all rides.

Our biggest issue was that there were actually not enough people to go on the rides and many of the land rides had minimum numbers for the ride to even start.  So the boys and I were often calling for people to join us, some would call it soliciting - I call it 'making new friends'!!  We had a couple of misunderstandings during the day.  The worst being when we asked one of the staff if the ride went upside down (not our favourite thing to do in the Nairn house) and they said 'no ma'am, no way'.  So we jumped on and then proceeded to all panic and hate the ride as it went to the point of upside down but not quite and was super fast and incredibly scary.  It was called the Equinox - photo below  - never again  !!  We were all very close to vomiting after that one.  The other rides were fairly standard and lots of fun - dodgems, pirate ship, log ride, space jam........

One of the most entertaining parts of the day was checking out the 'attire' of most of the patrons.  There is a very strict dress code at Wonderla and that is completely based on 'Nylon'.  Yep, you read that right.  Everyone needs to be in Nylon outfits - no sarees, bukhas or dupatta's allowed.  All for safety, and as I have seen on numerous occasions within India, the saree really isn't practical attire when dealing with machinery.  So, not only does Wonderla have a special store for you to buy your special 'nylon outfit' but the road leading up to the park is lined with small tents selling the most outrageously coloured nylon 'suit's.  Check out the photos below.  There were families in matching outfits - hilarious !!  Luckily the boys and I actually own swimming attire that meets the 'nylon rules'. However, I did end up wearing my gym gear in the water, as I am not sure it was the place to be in an actual western swimsuit - you will see why below !

Another ridiculous part of places like this in India is that all the staff are armed with whistles and are not afraid to use them.   I swear if I don't get arrested for shoving one of those whistles down a security guards throat it will be amazing.  They are everywhere - at the supermarket, at the bakery carpark, at the mall, at the school gates, at our gated community...... whistle whistle whistle !!!

Overall, we had a great day and even with Fast track passes, it was only $82 AUD for the 3 of us.  Not bad :)

The Equinox ride - terrifying !!!
