Happy Raksha Bandhan !

Today is the Indian celebration known as Raksha Bandhan - the celebration of the precious brother and sister relationship.  Traditionally, the sister will tie a bracelet or string with beads on her brothers' arm to hope for health, safety and prosperity.  Siblings will get together and exchange small gifts and treats to wish each other a Happy Rakhi.

A lovely part of being an expat in such a culturally different country as India, is the joy of learning about the many different and varied festivals and celebrations of the locals as well as other expats.  The term Raksha Bandhan actually translates to 'knot of protection' which I think is just beautiful.  I read today that the tiny threads of the bracelet are seen to be stronger than chains and will protect the strongest bond of love and trust.  I hope that many of you have this relationship with your siblings, I know I do and am seeing firsthand the love and bond between our boys.

Max and I went for a walk to the local village this morning and bought 2 Rakhi bands - one for each of our brothers.  Even though Max is not Jack's sister, we thought it would be nice to recognise the tough couple of weeks Jack has had and to let him know how much we love and wish him all the best for the coming weeks.

As I cannot physically see my brother today, I am going to wear the band for us both and hope for a safe and healthy year ahead.

“Times and money changes many things. But the love and the bond we share never changes. This Rakhi brings all the blessings, love and care for you. The memories may fade away with time but the love and special bond we share will grow ever stronger with each day... Happy Raksha Bandhan Wishes to You”

As a final note, a short update on Jack:  he is doing much better this week. He is finding the routine better with school in full swing and sport having a little more structure.  The weekends are always going to be harder as there is less to do and the time just doesn't fly by.  However, I am in the process of trying to get him some baseball training for Saturdays, so hopefully that will work out.  Thank you all for your well wishes and concerns.
