My Little Taste - literally (I ate myself stupid) - of India in Two Weeks
Well...I did it. I got on a flight and flew to India. This of course comes after many years of promising the Nairn’s I was coming to India. I wasn’t missing an opportunity to discover India, when I had the best guide to show me, living there. Thankfully for me, they moved back again after HK.
India hasn’t disappointed, it has delivered on everything I had imagined it to be and surprised in other ways. Where it has surpassed my expectations, is the food it has on offer. I assumed it would be good, and I’ve never been one to visit a foreign country and not dive into their cuisine or at least try it, but, I discovered that India’s local cuisine is exceptional. Street food as well. I can honestly say, every dish I had was one I could have over again. Of course, I used Susie and Mikes knowledge of Indian food to my advantage, why wouldn’t I!
I feel like I’m about to write a foodie guest blog, which wouldn’t be hard to do, but I won’t. It’s very difficult to put all my memories into one piece of writing. India is one of those countries you need to experience first-hand to fully appreciate and understand it. I love my history, which is offered up in bucket loads, and over the years I’ve read a lot of fiction and non-fiction about India. Totally lived up to it. It’s chaos, colours, beauty, poverty, history and people are something to see and be apart of, if only just once. The colours are everything you see in photos in magazines and books. The chaos is something I quickly found normal. The history is fascinating, and the people are beautiful. Poverty is something I’ll always find difficult to see, whatever country, and the landscape is definitely diverse. The word Diverse, is used so often I know, but with 1 billion people it is always, ‘showing a great deal of variety; very different’. Another love I discovered, a Royal Enfield. To take one home would be a treat.
My time in India has been one I won’t quickly forget. I’ve loved all it has to offer and am so happy I made the trip. I didn’t want to have one of those moments, ‘should’ve, could’ve, would’ve, but didn’t’, and then wished I had. It truly has been wonderful and that is thanks to Susie’s planning, (you nailed it chick, not that I doubted you for one bit), Mike letting me have his wife to myself for a few days,(funny story there), and just the Nairn’s hospitality, that includes you, Jack and Max. Thank-you boys for sharing India with me. It’s been a great ride. You guys are an amazing family, beautiful friends to me and I cannot thank-you enough. I’ve loved spending time with you all. What a trip!
