Maldives Do Over - February 2020

Back in 2014, Mike and I made our first heavenly visit to the stunning island paradise of the Maldives.  It cost a not-so small fortune and we loved every minute of it !!  When we returned to Bangalore after our few days away, our boys promptly told us that it wasn't fair that they didn't get to go with us and that we 'had' to take them.  The response was 'it took us 40 years to get there, so it can take that long for you as well' !!  End of conversation.

Fast forward a couple of years and the family decision of whether to relocate 'back' to India from Hong Kong was on the table.  It was not an easy decision for any of us to make, and some needed more convincing than others.  Mike thought a little sweetener might seal the deal with the boys and promised that if we completed another 2 years in India, that he would take them to the Maldives before we left as a bit of a reward !!  I am not sure if this was just a ploy on Mike's behalf to revisit the island paradise himself, but either way the promise was made.

So last week, we paid up - literally !  We did do this trip a little differently, staying at a more 'family friendly' resort and, definitely went the 'all inclusive' route with two teens in tow.  We stayed at the Centara Grand Resort and Spa and it was fabulous - loads of things for the boys to do and absolutely nothing for me to do but relax, read my book and enjoy a cocktail or two.  The all-inclusive really did remove the stress of things for us - and the boys were able to enjoy the activities without having to ask for permission etc.  However, I must say that the best activity is still the simplest and cheapest - snorkelling.  It is just so stunning to be swimming amongst all those beautiful fish and the coral.  We saw loads of different types of fish, reef sharks, stingrays, massive schools of fish - simply amazing.

I know that the Maldives is usually on most beach loving people's must-do list, but I can honestly say that it is a paradise that can only be seen to believed.  I am not usually one to chat with other holiday makers, but did have the opportunity to do so on this trip, and it is amazing how many people visit the Maldives annually or on a regular basis - I can't imagine how they afford it but understand why they do !!!

Another one to put on your travel bucket list.
