Last weekend we had the privilege of hosting an Australia Day BBQ in our community. I think we were very sensible in celebrating a day early, so that we had Sunday to recover - it was definitely needed !! We had 24 adults and 23 children enjoy in the festivities - we had loads of fabulous decorations (thanks Mum), and some great food share. We enjoying introducing our non-Australian friends to some great 'Aussie terms/slang' and sharing the joys of a great bbq, lamingtons, pavlova and Anzac biscuits. We even introduced some friends to vegemite - they weren't horrified but won't be coming back for more.
Celebrations like these take a lot of organisation and planning, but we appear to be getting better at it each year. I am lucky to have great help to pull off such a fabulous day and are so grateful for friends making the effort to join us.
The kids all had a blast running around the community playing hide and seek, swimming, football and even a spot of cricket. Our 'Australian outfits', along with the temporary tattoos, face paint, hats, streamers and flags made for a very festive affair.
I hope we can recreate such a fun day back in Australia next year.
