Diwali in Bangalore - 2019

Celebrating Diwali in India is something you can never quite understand unless you are here to experience it in person.  I think one of the misunderstood things about the 'festival of lights' is that it is just one day.  It tends to go on for a week to ten days - all day every day, all day and all night.  It is like Christmas that goes on and on.  Everyone is in party mode, family travel all over the country visiting family, sharing gifts and there are sales on everything, everywhere.

Of course, the biggest and most commonly known celebration during Diwali is fire crackers. Now, in Australia, we know them as fireworks and they are more about the light and pretty colours in the sky.  In India, it appears that the sound is more important.  Hence, the name fire crackers !  The 'bang' and 'boom' of fire crackers are constant, all day and night, even though the government has now put in place time restrictions.  It has definitely changed and ‘most’ people celebrate before 10pm each night but not ALL, especially in the village over the back fence.  When we lived here 5 years ago, the celebrations went on all night long!

It’s definitely an interesting time to be here and we managed to get a bag of crackers for half price (last day sale......) and we had loads of fun setting them off in the community. I’m sure we kept a few people awake and hope no one with a heart conditon was hurt!!

I am happy I don't ride the bus here  !! How could the driver see where he is going ??
