Revisiting City Market

Yesterday, I had the joy of taking some expat ladies to City market in Bangalore for their first visit.  I haven't been for 4 years and it is still the same and I didn’t even get lost in the labrynth of lanes and stalls.  It is a hive of activity from early in the morning to late in to the night.  The market is commonly known as a flower market but it is so large that it sells a whole lot more than just flowers. There are tools, fruits, vegetables, spices, kitchen utensils, bags, knives - basically everything!

I love the hustle and bustle of this particular Indian market and enjoy that most people there don’t care about us visiting, taking photos and generally just wandering around. I always manage to find something new or something fabulous to buy - yesterday was a bag of lovely fresh fruit - strawberries, mangos, bananas, pomegranates.... so fresh and delicious!

As you arrive at the market, there is an Indian street dentist at the entrance to the market, and is quite the sight.  Sadly, yesterday there was no one actually getting any work done but you get the gist.  It's as simple as choosing the teeth/veneer you want and he will put them in, on the spot under, an umbrella on the street.  I just love the simplicity of it but shudder at the lack of sanitisation……

Again, apologies for the volume of photos but I just couldn't choose……
The street dentist at the entry to the market is a favourite of mine
I think the buddha has the right idea - hilarious !!!
The flower market is always a hive of activity and is so vibrant in colour
I am not sure how safe the building actually is but people find places anywhere to make flower garlands and to dry spices
always time for more flower garlands
this is actually on a ledge above the market !!!
the backbone of India - potatoes, onions, garlic and ginger
they start at 5am, so a nap is needed at some point in the day
the smells are amazing in the spices aisle of the market
hot baby hot - 1kg of dried chillies for $2.40AUD - that is a whole lot of chillies !!!!
even the coconuts look pretty
Eye Spy with my little eye -    sleep anywhere !!
This poor guy was having a rest, not sure how he will get out with stairs above and below him :(
Pomegranates are ALWAYS in season in Bangalore.
