Max meets the Sir

When we moved to Hyderabad one of the things we needed to find was a cricket club for Max to continue his training and love of cricket. It took us a while to find the right club but we managed to connect with the VVS Laxman Cricket Academy and Max has been with them now for nearly 3 months.

It hasn't been the easiest transition for Max, being the only boy not from India and not knowing anyone else at the club.  He stands out even before he plays any cricket !!  The staff, boys and girls at the club have been very inviting to Max and he is always the first one to be chosen as a partner by all the kids.  They all love him !!  One of the club managers even asked if he could have a selfie with Max, as he was so proud having him join the club and wanted to show his family.  The coaching and training is very different to what he was used to in Hong Kong and he has definitely improved in the time he has been there.

The club is set within the grounds of a school about 15 minutes from our home.  The facilities are great and the players are split in to 4 groups based on skill, not age.  As we are currently heading in to winter, even though it is still 30+ degrees each day, the days are getting shorter and shorter.  So, most weeks we are in the dark towards the end of training even with a few floodlit nets - sometimes complete darkness when the power fails us.  They not only focus on batting and bowling but have sessions on fitness and fielding.

Last week was the Sir's (VVS Laxman's) birthday and there was a buzz around the ground that he may be at training one night to celebrate with the boys.  Unfortunately that was all just talk and he didn't appear.  However, tonight the great man was actually at the ground and spent an hour looking at all the kids training.  He is very shy and he didn't have much to say to all the very excited boys.  However, Max managed to meet VVS and thank him for the opportunity to play at the club.  A wonderful night.
