Indian Cooking Classes

This week I was lucky enough to join an Indian Cooking class.  It is run by one of the first ladies I met here in Hyderabad and she completes the classes from her home in our gated community.  Her family are from the Gujarat region in the north/west of India, however she has been raised in England and this expat adventure has been her first time living in India.

The course takes you through the identifying the many spices in Indian cooking and how to use them 'properly'. Then we discussed the different curries from each region of India and what makes them different.  We also looked at number of Indian utensils that I am now on the hunt for to improve my cooking skills.

We made the following dishes and then gorged ourselves eating it all !!

Entrees:

  • Chilli Paneer
  • Malai Chicken
  • Aloo Bajji

Mains:

  • Chicken curry
  • Potato Curry
  • Vegetable Curry
  • Chickpea Curry

Bread:

  • Chapatti

Dessert:

  • Gajjar ka halva (a carrot dessert..... so delicious and I forgot to take a photo......)

The course led us through making all of the above and how to adapt these for different meats, vegetables and pulses.  I can't wait to get in the kitchen and try it all out.
